The Savi Developer Tools utilizes the best-of-breed software as well as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) hardware, in order to build a wide range of solutions right from tracking children or car or house keys via mobile phone, to monitoring the moisture in your lawn, smog indexes or electricity consumed in a facility remotely. The tools include Savi SmartChain Adaptive Applications, Savi Web Service Application Program Interfaces (APIs), and Savi RFID Hardware Components, can be ordered online, include.

Project Volcano will be active till December 15, 2010, and participants from industry or academia are encouraged to present their best innovative ideas. The teams or individuals need to register and then should submit a written 100-word proposal. Primarily the ideas should revolve around applications which are designed for long-range, low-power solutions based on the ISO 18000-7 standard for active, battery-powered RFID. The presentation topics can move beyond the simple primary applications of the technology, and can even include applications which can monitor the location, security and condition of RFID-tagged assets moving throughout the global supply chain automatically.

A panel of judges from Savi Technology will evaluate the teams based on creativity, practical real-world scenarios and end-user benefits. The Grand Prize of One SMR-650B OEM Reader Board, One Year Subscription to the SmartChain Developer Platform, and the brand new OEM Tag Design Kit, which includes all of the equipment necessary to build an ISO 18000-7 tag (News - Alert) with Savi's new OEM Tag Module, will be awarded to the individual or team who presents the best idea. Also, Spot Prizes, of SMR-650B OEM Reader Board, are being awarded periodically throughout the contest duration, essentially to participants who offer the best solutions to help improve each other’s ideas; this will encourage collaboration among the participants. The SMR-650B OEM Reader Board is a completely functional ISO 18000-7 reader board that can be built into products or systems to interact with ISO 18000-7 RFID tags from distances of more than 200 feet.

In a release, the Director of Business Development of Savi Technology, Paul Krakow, said that, "When we launched the Savi Developer Program in June, we were overwhelmed by interest from people registering to gain access to the component technologies. Momentum has grown around the DASH7 Alliance, a nonprofit, multi-industry consortium promoting technology solutions based on the ISO 18000-7 standard, culminating in what we hope will be an explosion of creativity around how this technology can drastically improve operational productivity and quality of life."
