Karnack, an all-knowing M2M technology platform, will be launched by Telepathx. Wireless Telecommunication companies can use this platform to target energy, consumers, government and emergency management. An announcement in this regard has been made by Melbourne-based M2M smart grid developer, Telepathx.
According to James Eades, chairman and CEO of Telepathx, for the first time a turnkey cloud computing 'Smart Cities' solution is available in the form of the Karnack operating system (OS). From the day the solution is installed, smarter, safer and more efficient communities at the state and local level can be delivered by cellular networks operators.
The platform features a ready-to-deploy application along with sensor and cellular gateways also known as Access Points. The Telco’s will be able to deliver a real cost-effective smart grid solution to energy providers with this platform. Apart from managing, energy companies will be also able to quickly pinpoint transmission and distribution assets for faults and conditions. The time needed to find and restore power outages therefore will be reduced.
According to Eades, this is an area of considerable focus. The four main components of asset management, fuses, transformers, conductors and insulators are covered by the self managing reactive RFID sensory devices developed for this market. Unlike other solutions, which do not provide real benefits, this platform is a complete asset and outage management system.
Governments will be able to remotely gauge the severity of tsunamis with the platform and software. Governments will also be able to monitor the ebbing and flowing of flood levels. Lives can be saved and the governments will be also able to better prepare Emergency Management officials with this platform and software. Auto accidents, which happen due to crashing into fixed objects like power poles or bridges, can also be detected.
Up to 180 sensory devices within range can be simultaneously monitored by each Fixed gateway or 'Access Point' (News - Alert) running the Karnack OS. The potential of the platform therefore can be leveraged and maximized by the Telcos.
