HP Powered Management System Ensures Global Sharing of Information Across M2M Network

At the Digital Life Design Conference, HP entered into collaboration with a South Africa-based nongovernmental organization, mothers2mothers (m2m), to deploy its expert technology to help prevent transmission of HIV. The current paper-based patient record system will be replaced by a new database technology with the inclusion of cloud and mobile services by HP. The m2m network, with its 700 sites in sub-Saharan Africa, can make use of the new management system to easily share information as well as gain access to counselors providing effective education and support services to pregnant mothers.

The network will have easy access to up-to-date information on patient treatment plans using fast and effective reporting tools. Moving forward, the system will allow m2m employees to create an “always connected” environment by enabling them to collect and share data via mobile devices. This will further enhance operation scalability, thus accommodating the growing demands of more patients.

Using an effective and sustainable model of care, m2m helps to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV with almost 1.5 million women counseled every year across nine countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Health facilities usually employ HIV-positive mothers from local communities to mentor and support pregnant and new mothers with HIV. Working along with doctors and nurses, these mothers educate pregnant women’s about medicine intake as well as care for themselves and their babies. By empowering the women infected with HIV to live and let live, these counselors help combat the stigma of HIV within the community.

As part of a global health initiative, HP leverages its technology to drive structural, systemic improvements in health access and delivery and also helps build unique life saving solutions by bringing together the expertise of the mobile, cloud and enterprise technology.
