AT&T (News
- Alert) announced at Mobile World Congress this week that it is looking to expand its Machine-to-Machine (M2M) services portfolio and will be doing so by partnering with several companies.
For its millions of customers using its network for M2M services, AT&T will be offering more application features, global roaming options and management solutions.
"As part of our focus on enterprise mobility, we're helping to accelerate and transform M2M adoption for businesses by making every step of the process easier and faster so that our customers can seize the benefits of M2M connectivity - enhanced productivity, lower costs and streamlined operations - and integrate them simply into existing IT systems," said Chris Hill, vice president, Advanced Enterprise Mobility Solutions, AT&T Business Solutions, in a statement. "Our Advanced Enterprise Mobility Solutions group collaborates with our Emerging Devices team to enable a wireless connection for virtually any edge device."
On Tuesday, AT&T announced it will be embarking on four new relationships with companies that specialize in M2M technology to offer to customers more options for development, enterprise integration and management of M2M solutions across the 1,100 total connected non-stocked devices approved for use on the AT&T network, of which over 450 are M2M devices, according to a press release.
The four companies are Axeda (News - Alert), which was recognized for its award-winning M2M application development platform last November; ILS Technology, which provides monitoring and predictive maintenance applications; SensorLogic (News - Alert), which offers a service for tracking and monitoring fleets; and Sierra Wireless, which offers a hosted service for collecting and managing data from connected devices.
At Mobile World Congress (News - Alert), AT&T also discussed its plan to extend its M2M global roaming footprint for AT&T Control Center, to increase wireless device connectivity worldwide. By the second half of 2011, the AT&T Control Center, a delivery platform powered by Jasper Wireless, is expected to cover roaming in more than 200 countries. At the GSMA (News - Alert) Mobile World Congress event this week in Barcelona, AT&T is one of the sponsors of the GSMA Embedded Mobile House. The Embedded Mobile House provides a window to the connected world, and AT&T is demonstrating several solutions including a prescription pill bottle, wireless home security, eReaders, wireless picture frames, tracking devices, tablets, game consoles as well as the AT&T Mobile Barcode, according to a release.
