TMC's (News - Alert) CEO Rich Tehrani recently had the chance at ITEXPO East 2011 to sit down and talk with Stein Soelberg (News - Alert), director of Marketing at Kore Telematics. The company is in the M2M services industry, and they only sell network services. "We don't sell solutions, applications or hardware," he said. The company has been in business for eight years.
Soelberg was at the colocated M2M Evolution conference in Miami. They also broker relationships they have in place over several different networks, he explained, "so we can offer both CDMA, and GSM, GPRS services across North America and across the world."
Speaking to how he sees the market these days, Soelberg said "we're seeing it growing tremendously. We're seeing a shift away from the traditional strength areas, in fleet and asset tracking, and into new verticals that are really exciting, like transaction processing, payments, and healthcare."
Tehrani noted that he had recently seen a report saying we could have anywhere from two billion to 20 billion devices connected soon, and Soelberg said, "Yeah, it's rapidly getting to the tipping point where there are more devices connected to the Internet than people in the world. Kore is looking forward to that growth, and Soelberg said they're introducing a location-based service offering that can help a company locate all its M2M devices in the field.
Many of them are mobile, some are fixed assets, Soelberg said, and the product would let companies "do a query, and they can see where their devices are located on a map, and they can see latitude and longitude as well as the nearest street address." It works on either GPS or triangulation, and has been positively-received, he noted.
