According to company sources, the ScanLife platform is leveraged by Target (News - Alert), UPS, Verizon and other businesses in North America. It will allow brands in Mexico to use features like easy code management, analytics from scans to representative demographics and other unique code actions to launch any mobile campaign and customizable solutions.

Company officials also added that Rodrigo Rivero Borrell was named country manager in Mexico City. Borrell has over seven years of experience in the mobile industry and has been the partner and director for Codilink.

He has been instrumental in inking major deals with Starbucks, Coca-Cola and Cinepolis. As part of the negotiations, he finalized a partnership with Telcel where the carrier has preloaded the Scanlife application for handset manufacturers locally.

In a release, Mike Wehrs (News - Alert), CEO and president of Scanbuy, stated, “We’re looking forward to growing Scanbuy’s presence in Mexico as part of our focus on international expansion for 2011.”

“This announcement comes on the heels of our partnership announcement with Orange France at Mobile World Congress (News - Alert) and brings our best in class solution to Mexico so any marketer can easily manage and track their 2D barcode campaigns.  It’s been developed and proven over the past three years with some of the largest brands in the world,” Wehrs added.

Telcel officials added that the ScanLife application has been installed and branded as Codigo Ideas in approximately six million devices. Several devices across major operating systems will be supported including Android, BlackBerry, iPhone, Symbian (News - Alert), Java and others.

Borrell added, “As mobile barcode technology gained traction in Mexico over the past few years, it’s been exciting to see more and more marketers, consumers and mobile operators embrace the technology. Scanbuy’s presence in Mexico will provide brands and mobile operators in the country local access to the best mobile barcode service available today.”

Recently Scanbuy announced that it has greatly expanded its “Scan & Send” service by adding MMS support. It will also support all major open barcode formats.
