Kore's Soelberg: Close to 'Tipping Point' Between People and Connected Devices

At the recently-concluded IT EXPO East 2011 in Miami, TMC’s CEO, Rich Tehrani, had a chance to interview Stein Soelberg (News - Alert), director of marketing for Kore Telematics.

Attending as part of the Co-Location M2M Evolution Conference, Soelberg said his company has been in business for about eight years, selling network services -- only. “We don’t sell solutions, applications or hardware,” he said, adding that they do broker relationships they have in place with “several different networks.” That way, he said, they can offer services across North America and the rest of the world.

Soelberg said they’re seeing the market growing “tremendously. We’re seeing a shift away from the traditional strength areas of fleet and asset tracking, and into new verticals that are really exciting, like transaction processing, payments and health care.”

Tehrani mentioned a recent report he’d seen saying soon there will be close to 20 billion devices connected. Soelberg said yes, “I think we’re about to cross that tipping point between more devices connected to the Internet than people” in the world.

Previewing Soelberg’s presentation at the conference, TMC’s (News - Alert) Rahul Arora wrote that Soelberg, through his presentation, “will highlight the factors that should be considered when making an M2M network services decision. He will discuss whether developing a wireless solution for mHealth, utilities, mobile payments, security or any other vertical, certain basic principles can be followed to create an efficient and effective M2M strategy and ensure the network service partner selection criteria are met for the short and long term.”

During the 45-minute presentation, Soelberg will also emphasize on the ways through which attendees can take advantage of multiple networks to maximize geographic service delivery capabilities and centralize device management through one portal.
