KORE Upgrades Network to Support 10 Million Devices

Since upgrading its network in December of 2009, KORE Telematics, the world leader in wireless services provider specializing in machine-to-machine (M2M), has attained 99.999 percent availability. The company’s dedicated M2M network can now support over 10 million connected devices.

KORE has set up two fault-tolerant and completely redundant data centers with automatic fail-over in Atlanta and Las Vegas. The data centers have a dedicated MPLS backhaul each, powered by Cisco (News - Alert) routers and switches.

KORE has been focusing on environment-friendly operations as it has managed to cut down its BTU and power consumption by 58 percent and reduce its network operations physical footprint by over 80 percent. This was achieved by reducing the company’s hardware requirement from 39 to 4 percent by using Cisco’s Unified Computing server platform on VMware’s vSphere virtualization technology.

In a release, Danny Thomas, vice president of Operations and Technology at KORE Telematics, said that, “Kore designed this network to optimize M2M service delivery for our customers – partnering with industry leaders such as Compugen, Cisco, EMC (News - Alert) and VMWare to deliver the performance and fault tolerance required by the leading solution providers in the marketplace today.”

KORE has launched KORE LOCATE, a complementary GPS application service that offers a single interface for locating devices across the company’s GPRS and CDMA networks in Canada and the United States. The company also added radius services that help KORE M2M partners and end-user companies to easily ensure that their devices are live on the network and are transmitting data.

“Through a number of network investments, technology innovations and the dedication to our partners, KORE continues to increase its leadership position as the premier M2M network services provider,” Alex Brisbourne, president and COO of KORE Telematics, said in a statement. “The M2M industry continues to grow at record rates, and with our recent network enhancements, KORE is ideally positioned to meet this growth head on. With highly-scalable network capabilities and unmatched uptime, we’re enabling partners in mobile healthcare, fleet management, utilities, mobile payments and numerous other industries to innovate and succeed.”

KORE Telematics offers control and management services for mobile networks in over 170 countries. The company uses technologies like GSM, CDMA, HSPA and EV-DO to offer the maximum possible network coverage and reliability.
