Seattle-based Airbiquity, a major player in wireless connected vehicle services, has been selected for OnStar retail product, OnStar FMV.

OnStar, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors (News - Alert), is a provider of connected safety and security solutions, value-added mobility services and advanced information technology.

OnStar FMV, which will be available for purchase from North American consumer electronics retailers later this year, is an uniquely designed mirror-mounted retail device that will bring connected vehicle services to virtually any vehicle.

“We’re exceptionally proud of Airbiquity’s eight-year relationship with OnStar, the leading brand in connected vehicles,” said David Jumpa, senior vice-president of global business development of Airbiquity, in a statement.

“With our underlying technology, OnStar continues to offer an innovative and cost-effective range of services to drivers. Adding OnStar to a car is now as quick and easy as installing a new rear-view mirror,” said Jumpa.

Back in November, Airbiquity and Robert Bosch Car Multimedia GmbH, announced that they were forming a partnership to enable connected vehicle services and offerings for Bosch’s in-car multimedia systems. Airbiquity will work with Bosch on specific global automaker engagements.

The two companies are already working to deliver an in-car system for its first joint customer, providing connected vehicle services in 17 countries throughout North America, Europe and Russia.

Bosch joins a growing number of automotive companies selecting Airbiquity’s Mobile Integration solution.

The solution includes connectivity through a consumer’s mobile device and Choreo, Airbiquity’s cloud-based platform for global connected vehicle services delivery.

Airbiquity’s service delivery platform’s open, flexible architecture supports expansion for future services as well as all data transport types, which guarantees the widest possible market coverage for connected vehicle solutions.

The Mobile Integration solution also provides a comprehensive subscriber service management framework, including Web, mobile Web, and smartphone apps, for integrating the connected vehicle into the consumer’s digital lifestyle.
