The inhabitants of Los Angeles County waste approximately four days in a year in traffic jams. However, if required, motorists help each other during this time. OnStar honored L.A. with the top rank for Good Samaritan calls in 2010. This shows that the city’s drivers are living up to its nickname.
OnStar arrived at this conclusion based on anonymous subscriber interaction data from 10 U.S. metropolitan areas. When an OnStar subscriber utilizes the 365/24/7 live advisor access to report another vehicle’s problem on the road that requires instant support, a Good Samaritan call takes place. Motorists in Los Angeles made 2,449 Good Samaritan calls, almost 900 more than the next key metropolitan city, Chicago. The OnStar rankings for America's top 10 cities, 2010 are Los Angeles-2,449, Chicago-1,540, Houston-1,299, Dallas-1,113, New York-957, Atlanta-942, Philadelphia-830, Boston-638, Miami-217, and Washington, D.C.-115 calls.
In a release, Terry Inch, director of Subscriber Services said, “Los Angeles residents deserve a huge pat on the back for their part in reporting actionable situations to our advisors, and ultimately helping to ensure many drivers' safety. We're all familiar with the adage of helping one's neighbor, but L.A. has really taken that phrase to mean 'helping your fellow motorist.’”
