SignalSet Develops M2M Solution after Raising $6 Million

SignalSet has come up with a machine-to-machine (M2M) solution, which uses and administers wireless devices, which can switch remotely between GSM and CDMA networks.

The company will provide network access via Sprint and T-Mobile (News - Alert). It also will offer a telematics service for the trucking industry, called “Remote Carrier Switching technology.”

“We’re taking a unique approach to M2M with a continuous wireless choice,” Peter van der Gracht, CEO of SignalSet, said in a company statement reported by Urgentcomm.com. “The idea of changing carriers down the road is a major pain point for the customer. These assets can last a decade. And national OEM manufacturers that buy devices need a national footprint. They have this challenge of having to choose a carrier at the time of installation that might now serve the device over time.”

SignalSet is also developing deals with major operators in the United States and Canada, Urgentcomm said.

The company focuses on the trucking industry and telematics market.

In other company news, SignalSet recently got $6 million from Vanedge Capital, Point B Capital, Globespan Capital Partners and Razorback Capital.

Vanedge Capital led the Series A investment round and was joined by Point B Capital. Globespan Capital Partners and Razorback Capital, who are among the seed investors that first backed SignalSet, also took part in the round.

“We’re focused on companies that apply game mechanics to business applications to create compelling interactive digital experiences, and SignalSet’s soon-to-be-released multi-network telematics solution with its modern user interface is but one example of the breakthroughs that are now possible in the machine-to-machine arena,” Vanedge CFO and Partner Divesh Sisodraker, said in a company press release. “That’s important as increasingly, truly interactive services will sit at the heart of mission-critical operations that shouldn’t be dependent upon a single carrier’s network.”

SignalSet plans to use the money that was raised for product development, product launch, and marketing initiatives “conducted collaboratively with its first development and distribution partner,” according to a report carried on TMCnet.

Based in Seattle, SignalSet is a multi-carrier virtual network operator.
