Molex (News
- Alert), a deliverer of complete interconnect solutions for a number of markets including data communications, telecommunications and consumer electronics, announced that it has expanded its HSAutoLink Interconnect System, a high speed in-vehicle data bus assembly designed to offer robust connectivity to commercial automotive and other transportation sectors.
Molex asserted that the average new vehicle contains more than twice as many electrical circuits as models produced a decade ago. As demand for advanced navigation, safety, comfort, and infotainment content increases, Molex is innovating solutions to simplify electrical distribution systems and enable the feature-rich environment consumers have come to expect.
The company claimed that the HSAutoLink is a high-speed data bus for vehicles that encompasses technologies used in other markets such as Universal Serial Bus (USB 2.0), Low Voltage Differential Signaling (LVDS), IEEE (News - Alert) 1394b (FireWire), FlexRay, eMOST and Ethernet. It can be deployed in automotive, industrial production equipment and transportation products.
With the newly unveiled expanded cable exit offerings, the HSAutoLink family now offers improved design flexibility to fit space-constrained vehicle packaging requirements. Also the HSAutoLink packaged assembly deploys an economical five-pin shielded connector system from the consumer market that has been ruggedized to meet automakers’ mechanical requirements.
Some of the features and benefits of the HSAutoLink are: rugged connectors meet USCAR requirements; superior signal performance and reduced Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI); standard Molex automotive and USB connector components used; offers ease-of-use and simplified assembly process; provides qualified and market tested USB electrical performance; and more.
Officials with the company exclaimed that they are seeing striking shifts in the way consumers evaluate automobile purchases. Next-generation car buyers know the conveniences they want. Many place as much emphasis on the technology and connectivity of a vehicle as on the brand and model. The HSAutoLink family offers the total in-vehicle network package to manufacturers seeking to economically reduce weight and space, while delivering a high bandwidth ‘cool’ factor.
