Elecsys Corp. Unveils New Rugged Handheld Computer Platform Radix FW960


As a provider of innovative machine to machine (M2M) communication technology solutions and custom electronic equipment for critical industrial applications, Elecsys Corporation has expanded its mobile computing product line with the addition of Radix FW960 handheld computer platform and the FWM-90 multifunction color imager and scanner.

In a press release, Karl B. Gemperli, president and CEO, Elecsys Corporation, said, "Radix products are used in the field all over the world in maintenance, inspection, meter reading, law enforcement, transportation, logistics, and other applications in extreme environments.”

As a new addition to company’s ultra rugged mobile computing products, the Radix FW960 handheld computer platform is ideal for harsh outdoor environments. It is powered by the Microsoft (News - Alert) Windows Embedded CE 6.0 real-time operating system designed for mobile devices.

Featuring an XScale processor that operates at 520 MHz, the Radix FW960 handheld computer also features 128 Megabytes of RAM (News - Alert) memory, 2 Gigabytes of flash memory, and efficient power management for extended battery life.

Some of the applications of Radix FW960 include inspection and maintenance, transportation, logistics, route accounting, parking enforcement, meter reading, and more.

Apart from embedded Bluetooth and WiFi (News - Alert) functionality, the IP67 certified Radix FW960 handheld computer is waterproof and submersible. It can operate even in harsh temperatures from -4º to 140ºF (-20º to 60ºC).

In addition, the Radix FW960 is MIL-STD-810Fcertified ensuring safety from shock, drop, and vibration. It is also provided with 3 level shock absorption system; high strength, solvent resistant Xenoy enclosure; custom keyboard options; Lithium battery 2400 mAh; and more.

Gemperli added, “The performance and capabilities of the new Radix FW960, combined with the modular design of our handheld computers and the broad selection of options and rugged peripherals, make it an ideal choice for custom solution development for rugged field data acquisition and management applications."

Apart from hand-held computers, Elecsys also offers a comprehensive range of Radix brand options and peripheral equipment for its handheld computers, such as GPS receivers, radio frequency identification (RFID) readers, bar code scanners, printers, and a variety of wireless communications devices.

Elecsys FWM-90, another addition to its product line, is a multifunction color imager and scanner. It combines a 1.3 Megapixel color camera and video capture device with an integrated 1D and 2D barcode scanner in a single rugged package.

As a provider of integrated displays and custom electronic assemblies for diverse applications in multiple industries, Elecsys offers its products to markets such as energy production and distribution, safety and security systems, agriculture, transportation, aerospace, and natural resource management.

In recent news, Elecsys had announced the addition of zONeGUARD to its supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) telemetry product line, as reported by TMC.
