The M2M market got a serious boost this month when Germany’s dominant service provider Deutsche Telekom (News
- Alert) (News - Alert) announced it is offering of a M2M Toolkit to developers and application solution providers to accelerate their M2M application development. It quotes a statement by Jurgen Hase, vice president of the M2M Competence Center at Deutsche Telekom about the telecom giant’s interest, saying it extends Deutsche Telekom’s “ long-term commitment to the growth of M2M segment, to bring innovative developers and application solution providers to the M2M eco-system, to support them to explore the segment with Deutsche Telekom’s assets, and to enable them to succeed in the new ‘Internet-of-things’ world.” Very exciting.
Carl Ford (News - Alert), Partner, Crossfire Media (frequent contributor of market insights on M2M and a driving force behind TMCnet’s M2M Conference in Austin), had a thought provoking piece, “Is M2M the Answer for Job Stimulus?” Reacting to Former President Clinton’s recent Newsweek cover story regarding 14 ways to employ America which cited M2M as an opportunity, Carl says, “M2M has turned the corner, into a phase of development that is platform driven, and away from device specific implementations.” He also says, “Regardless of why you deploy a sensor, the value is not in the sensor but in the intelligence it brings to decisions. If that does not create jobs it certainly makes for better ones.”
TMCnet Contributor Sujata Garud, detailed some of the key findings of a new market research report, “Survey of consumer attitudes towards OVI Maps, apps and Terminal Mode," that Reportlinker.com has added to its catalogue from the UK’s SBD Research Group. The report states that more than 60 percent of European consumers believe that a smartphone kit would be important while making a decision to buy their next car. Among its more interesting insights is a statement that, “the time has come for vehicle manufacturers to decide whether to adopt Terminal Mode or to use an alternative in-car integration solution.”
Sequoia Promotes Telit MOT Units in UK M2M Market
Sequoia Technology announced that the recent acquisition of Motorola (News
- Alert) M2M by Telit Wireless Solutions has been closed, hence giving the company the rights to actively promote the Telit MOT units in the UK M2M market. TMCnet Contributor Sujata Garud’s feature on the closing of the deal highlights that this will allow Sequoia Technology to offer the full range of Motorola 2G/3G Modules, Terminals and Development platforms, sitting alongside their existing portfolio of modules.
