U.S. Telecom Wired and Wireless Sizing and Share 2011-2016 is the 18th edition of the telecommunications industry's chief market sizing study, and research firm ATLANTIC -ACM revealed that connected devices in the M2M market are expected to grow very rapidly over the next five years.
According to the study, the 23.9 million connected devices in 1Q 2011 is predicted to touch 82.5 million by 2016, generating a revenue of $1.6 billion in wireless revenues.
In a press release, Douglas J. Barnett, ATLANTIC-ACM analyst, spoke of the tremendous opportunities that connected devices had not only in the M2M market but also in other greenfield projects.
Barnett said, “While blockbuster M2M deals – like those with AT&T for Amazon’s Kindle or Verizon’s contract with General Motors’ (News - Alert) OnStar – dominate headlines, there are thousands of opportunities for greenfield projects connecting a nearly limitless array of devices to networks.”
Substantiating his statement with figures, Barnett added, “This broad range of opportunities will connect 82.5 million devices by 2016, generating $1.6 billion in revenues to wireless providers.”
