Market Strategies Study Indicates Scope for the M2M Market

Market Strategies International, a research consultancy firm with deep expertise in many sectors, conducted a national M2M study between June 21 and July 1, 2011 to determine the extent of mobile security for people prevalent at schools and day care centers.

For the purpose of the survey, Market Strategies interviewed a national sample of 1,500 consumers aged 18 or older. The opt-in online panel of U.S. adults were interviewed online with extra consideration being given to criteria like age, gender and region.

According to the survey, when mobile security for people was considered, only half of the Americans appeared serious about monitoring unauthorized visitors at schools and daycares using radio frequency identification.

In a press release, George Wilkerson, executive vice president of the communications division at Market Strategies said that given the fact that Americans wanted greater security for their kids, he expected the figure to be higher.

However, he provided an explanation for the rather puzzling findings. Apparently 50 percent of consumers viewed tracking people as an 'invasion of privacy” while almost 61 percent believed that the technology provided a false sense of security.

Other key findings revealed that 51 percent evinced interest in a GPS locator for family members, for pets and for identity monitoring at schools and day care centers while 39 percent fancied geo-fencing. Forty five percent showed interest in geo-fencing for pets.

This, according to the study indicated that there was a definite interest in M2M solutions for tracking people and pets and this was an opportunity for tech-savvy companies to push such products across with aggressive campaigns.

Wilkerson recommended that companies create loyal customers by helping them understand the emerging M2M market better and create an awareness about the associated benefits of using M2M devices.
