TomTom (News - Alert) announced that its truck navigation and GPS tracking device TomTom PRO 9150 TRUCK is available now. TomTom specializes in supplying in-car location and navigation products and services that provide drivers with an optimized navigation experience.
The company’s products include portable navigation devices, in-dash infotainment systems, fleet management solutions, maps and real-time services, and TomTom HD Traffic.
In a release Thomas Schmidt, Managing Director TomTom Business Solutions said, “Operational control can be lost when transport and logistics companies adopt subcontractor models to avoid the burden of fixed overheads – the PRO 9150 TRUCK can now be provided to subcontractors to deliver an extremely versatile solution.”
TomTom PRO 9150 TRUCK combines both truck navigation and GPS tracking in a single device and hence can be easily used in multiple vehicles. This is expected to enable transport businesses to manage subcontracted work optimally.
The device routes around known dimensional and weight restrictions and enables two-way messaging. It also relays vehicle activity information to fleet managers via WEBFLEET, TomTom’s online fleet management application.
Officials added that the device features a 5” fluid touch screen, pan-European mapping, intelligent routing and access to TomTom LIVE Services. It also includes HD Traffic using which drivers can avoid congestion.
TomTom LIVE services help commuters take the quickest way through the traffic. It offers accurate traffic info, wider coverage and more updates. LIVE services helps one get to the destination as fast as possible beating road works, traffic jams and speed cameras besides saving on fuel.

TomTom Business Solutions offers fleet management solutions and is a Telematics Service Provider (TSP) for commercial fleets in Europe. WORKsmart is a ready to use fleet management solution from the company. It manages all types of commercial fleets and is based on TomTom WEBFLEET technology.
According to a news release in TMCnet, a new app helps people make money with their phones. The idea behind startup Gigwalk is that it connects iPhone (News - Alert) owners with companies that pay them to snap photos of restaurants, street signs, stores and other places in urban areas. Launched in May, Gigwalk’s customers include Microsoft’s Bing search engine and TomTom, which makes portable GPS navigation systems for vehicles and mobile phones.
Gigwalk is a crowd-commerce business that uses apps to connect those who want a task done with those who are willing to do them.
