Verizon Wireless and Encore Networks Unveil M2M Solutions for Cellular Transport

Telecom service provider Verizon Wireless (News - Alert) and Encore Networks, a provider of IP+Legacy Virtual Private Network routers for converged and broadband solutions for M2M, SCADA, smart grid, AMR/AMI and industrial applications, has launched M2M solutions, a legacy protocol conversion to IP over the private, secure Verizon Wireless 2G and 3G networks.

The strategic partnership enables the two companies to offer Encore’s BANDIT commercial and ruggedized IP+Legacy enterprise routers, including the C2C, an embedded replacement of Plain Old Telephone Services (POTS) copper lines with advanced IP applications over cellular.

“M2M is experiencing tremendous growth as it becomes widely adopted across many different industries,” said Peter Madsen, president and CEO of Encore Networks (News - Alert), in a statement. “By working with Verizon Wireless, we are able to execute on our business vision and deploy the right M2M solutions.”

As per the agreement, Encore Networks will also market the BANDIT rugged enterprise routers designed for SCADA and other harsh network environments. The BANDIT is designed to ensure high throughput data networking connections directly to the Verizon Wireless cellular network.

The company claims that the BANDIT routers are used in locations where environmental controls are limited such as power distribution sub-stations, refineries and transportation applications. Utility companies in North America use the BANDIT for secure control and monitoring SCADA applications.

“Many enterprises currently are looking to shift their existing copper lines and migrate to a more reliable advanced IP technology,” said Michael Toto, director of enterprise and government partnerships, Verizon Wireless. “With their M2M centric technology, Encore Networks has the right approach to enable a seamless conversion and management of the connections.”

Recently, Encore Networks announced its partnership with DH Solutions, a M2M integrator and distributor. The partnership deal will enable DH Solutions to sell, engineer and service Encore's entire BANDIT line with emphasis on the C2C.
