Alert), Inc., a provider of mission-critical wireless communications, announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued to the company patent number 7,624,185 titled “System For Automated Device-To-Device Transfer System.”
This particular device allows for the capability to transfer an on-going server-related session from one device to another device while also maintaining the session. A laptop user, for instance, may wish to transfer an active session to a smartphone. With a conventional system, the user must close the session on the laptop and restart it on the smartphone.
While reinitiating a new session on a second device is an adequate solution, the user may be facing the loss of the current session history, a time delay as a result of logging off and reinitiating or some other similar inconvenience. With the TCS invention, users can start a session transfer between proximate devices without having to end the session on the first device and restart it on the second.
A server-related session is transferred through a fully automated process that uses the session server to block subsequent session-related messages sent to the first device after the transfer is complete. It will also convert messages and history to a format that is compatible with the second device.
The first device then performs a device-to-device transfer of the converted messages and the converted session history to the second device, which enables a seamless transfer of the session to the second device.
“The ability to seamlessly switch from one device to another without loss of session continuity is a major improvement over conventional systems,” Drew Morin (

“Using the TCS device-to-device session transfer technology described in this and other patents makes the virtual office a reality by enabling transfer from one device platform to another with no loss of data or continuity,” Morin added.
TCS now holds 91 patents with approximately 270 applications pending.
Earlier this month, TCS
acquired all assets of privately held Sidereal Solutions, Inc., a satellite communications technology engineering, operations and maintenance support services company.
In October, the company
celebrated the receiving of a large order from the U.S. army. TCS has reportedly received a $1.6 million order from the U.S. Army to supply JTRS radios and associated Audio Control Units. The order is funded by NORTHCOM. TCS provides mission-critical wireless data solutions to government customers, public safety and carriers.
