Sierra Wireless, a provider of various wireless solutions, reportedly
announced the newest version of its fully integrated environment, “
M2M Studio Version 1.1.1,” for the development of embedded machine-to-machine, or “M2M,” software.
M2M Studio, in general, is a fully integrated development environment that facilitates developers to create, develop, compile, download, debug as well as test their applications. Built on Eclipse, this integrated development environment completely integrates tools such as the source code editor, project build wizard, target download, RTE mode monitor, JTAG debugger, traces emulator and development tool chain, all within the Eclipse Ganymede framework.
Featuring an easy-to-use graphical user interface and integrated GUI-based documentation, M2M Studio 1.1.1 is provided with a series of enhancements and additional features, such as compliance with Linux, integrated documentation, original source code, and software redistribution, officials with Sierra Wireless (

The new software redistribution features allows developers to create their own embedded software plug-ins as well as make them accessible to other M2M Studio users. Moreover, M2M Studio’s compliance with Linux facilitates users to work on PC Linux platforms as well as Windows when building projects.
Because original source code is also made available, developers can not only customize and recompile but also share the software between members of the M2M Studio community, thereby encouraging further development. Additionally, it includes new software to ease the installation of all Open AT Software Suite components, including M2M Studio itself.
Furthermore, the latest release includes other enhanced features such as automatic notifications of software component updates, direct access to documentation via the help menu, warning pop-ups in case of incompatibility between software components, and an improved 'Launch configurations' feature that allows usage of Segger JTAG.
M2M Studio is also compatible with most GSM, GPRS, EDGE, and HSPA embedded modules from Sierra Wireless. The IDE can be downloaded for free from
www.wavecom.com/m2mstudio.
M2M Studio was originally developed by
Wavecom. However, in February, Sierra Wireless acquired Wavecom (

'Since its initial release in January 2009, M2M Studio has proved its appeal to developers of a wide range of innovative M2M applications, including home security systems, asset tracking devices, in-vehicle fleet management, smart utility meters, and fixed wireless telephones,' said Didier Dutronc, senior vice president, marketing at Sierra Wireless. 'This new release of M2M Studio enables even more creativity and freedom to users when developing and customizing embedded software applications.'
Sierra Wireless solutions are used for mobile computing, transportation, industrial M2M, enterprise, residential and consumer communications applications.
