As part of Descartes' United by Design initiative, the company’s most recent offering, the AVL Pocket PC mobile resource management application, brings additional functionalities to the Motorola's MC75 mobile device including effective delivery route planning execution, online management of vehicles using GPS, scanning and signature capture, and more. The composite set of features enables users to increase their fleet and delivers improved mobile resource visibility to retailers.
Using the combined Descartes and Motorola AVL mobile resource management offering, retailers can view field data updates and tracking instantly, from basic GPS coordinates to complex user-configurable data collection. Operators can also evaluate delivery or field worker performance against planned routes, and inform dispatch and/or customer service functions if any alterations are effected during the delivery cycle using the extent of information obtained. Field workers can also take a look at important shipment information to maintain current delivery status and effectively synchronize arrival times.
Descartes AVL helps operators to obtain status updates instantly using integrated wireless and GPS feedback. Operators can also provide telephone or electronic call outs before deliveries are dispatched based on planned routes and customers can also get up to the minute delivery status information online.
