Vehicle fleet location-based services, also known as “LBS,” are making fast inroads into government agencies in America as they realize the inherent benefits the technology can bring to administration. As a result, more government machinery now includes LBS technology.

 

Recently, WebTech Wireless announced that the company made three such sales to North American municipal government agencies.

 

WebTech Wireless (News - Alert) provides solutions to commercial and insurance vehicle fleet markets.

 

The first agency, Maricopa County, Arizona, has signed a contract worth $400,000 for the outfitting of 473 heavy and light-duty vehicles with WebTech Wireless' InterFleet remote fleet management hardware and software solution.

 

The second contract, worth $217,665, was signed by the city of Buffalo, which has purchased an Enterprise InterFleet solution for a number of its public works departments.

 

Also, the third contract is from the city of Welland, Ontario, was signed to provide WebTech Wireless for its NextBus real-time passenger information solution.

 

Owen Moore, chief operating officer at WebTech Wireless said, 'These latest contracts clearly illustrate the ability of InterFleet to address the demands of municipalities facing very different operating challenges. Maricopa, one of the country's hottest and driest counties, needed a solution that could meet the demands of numerous, growing departments, while Buffalo's immediate needs are focused on improving the efficiency of their fleets during the critical winter months.'

 

Recently, the company also announced it concluded a settlement arrangement with LunarEye, in the matter of a patent infringement suit filed by LunarEye in the Eastern District of Texas in May 2007. The terms of the settlement agreement are confidential, but involve a one-time payment, no admission of infringement and a release from any future action by LunarEye against WebTech.
