Numerex to Leverage Vodafone's Network for M2M Development

Numerex Corp., a provider of secure machine-to-machine (M2M) products and services, has reportedly signed an agreement with Vodafone, one of the largest wireless network operators in the world, giving Numerex (News - Alert) access to Vodafone's extensive data networks in the UK.

The deal means Numerex can now leverage Vodafone's advanced network to help M2M technology companies, including dealers, distributors and other businesses, in bringing M2M solutions to market. More specifically Numerex and its partners will use Vodafone’s (News - Alert) network to test and implement new M2M products and services developed using the Numerex DNA (Device, Network and Application) and Numerex FAST platforms.

The two companies claim this will greatly simplify the development and implementation of M2M applications by providing a complete solution infrastructure, including hardware integration and certification support; application development hosting and maintenance; and back-end support services such as billing, 24/7 customer care, web-based management tools and training and distribution services.

'We are excited about the prospect of launching our M2M services in the United Kingdom, in collaboration with one of the world's leading wireless carriers,' said Stratton Nicolaides, CEO and chairman of Numerex, in a release. 'Vodafone's experience, know-how, and intimate knowledge of the M2M marketplace will help us to solidify and expand our presence in the UK and elsewhere in Europe.'

The deal enables Numerex to offer an integrated, single point of contact that enables developers to rapidly and cost-effectively deploy applications to their own customers over a secure data network.

Numerex made news in October when it announced that it had joined the QinetiQ (News - Alert) North America team that has been awarded a multi-year contract from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for full program management of Asset Tracking Services facilitating in-transit visibility within FEMA's Total Asset Visibility (TAV) Program. The managed services will include provisioning of all asset tracking devices and supplemental equipment, providing GPS messaging services to locate tagged-assets or shipments, ensuring secure data sharing of data-feeds and messaging, delivering technical support for on-going operations and maintenance including continued integration with the Department of Homeland Security DHS\FEMA technical architecture, maintaining detailed account balances, and surge capabilities for disaster operations.
