Hughes (News - Alert) 9201-M2M is a fully IP-compatible solution configured for self-contained supervisory control and data acquisition or SCADA operation via a standard Ethernet interface. The solution is ideal for the oil, gas and utility industries.

Rugged and compact, Hughes 9201-M2M can be readily packaged for continuous monitoring and control of remote sites, such as well automation, pipeline monitoring, utility SmartMeter backhaul, and backup to VSAT networks, company officials said.

The 9201-M2M is a secure and “always-on” SCADA solution for a wide range of traffic sites handling kilobytes, megabytes or even gigabytes of data. Customers may also choose to apply the terminal's inherent two-way SMS interface for expanded remote command and control, company officials added.

“As we approach 10,000 terminals in service worldwide, the Hughes 9201 BGAN terminal has proven itself to be highly robust for mission-critical interactive applications in the most demanding environments,” Graham Avis, vice president and general manager of Hughes San Diego, said in a statement.

“Our new machine-to-machine, self-contained version of this versatile terminal builds upon its successful operation as a high-speed, fully IP-compatible BGAN terminal to address the countless unattended SCADA remote sites worldwide which need reliable, real-time monitoring and control,” Avis added.

The company claims that Hughes 9201-M2M single-box solution reduces maintenance and troubleshooting costs, and is designed to withstand demanding weather conditions for extended periods of time.

The solution supports Simple Mail Transfer Protocol or “SMTP” email, File Transfer Protocol or “FTP”, and virtual private networks or “VPNs.”

Earlier in February, Hughes Network Systems (News - Alert) announced the availability of the Hughes 9350 BGAN mobile satellite terminal, fully type-approved for operation over Inmarsat's (News - Alert) BGAN satellite service.

Ideal for vehicular applications in the most demanding environments, the Hughes 9350 offers high-performance connectivity at data rates of up to 400 kbps, according to the company.
