Its customers include some of the world’s largest organizations delivering the foundational components of device, network, and application. To provide customers new channels to monitor and manage their assets remotely, Numerex (News - Alert) has selected short message service technology from mobile messaging company Tekelec (News - Alert).

No matter which part of the world you are in, you can send and receive machine-to-machine text messages provided you have the availability of a basic cellular connection. Enabling rapid message delivery, machine-to-machine text messages allow the Numerex customers carry on their businesses from any corner of the globe. No wonder, it has been predicted by market intelligence company ABI Research (News - Alert) – which considered countless possible uses across organizations of all sizes – that M2M SMS will grow at a 40.06 percent compound annual growth rate from 2008 to 2014.

Businesses are constantly in the lookout for more cost effective solutions to speed up their business processes. In this situation, the SMS is increasingly gaining in popularity as a low cost and dependable wireless communication method for both personal and machine-to-machine communications. Under this scenario, the collaboration between Numerex and Tekelec is going to open up new possibilities for the world’s renowned organizations.

“Organizations are constantly searching for new ways to lower costs, automate tasks and track their products,” Dr. Jeffrey Smith, Chief Technology Officer for Numerex said. “As we are continuing to build out our infrastructure to provide a secure and reliable end-to-end enabling solution for our customers (Numerex DNA), Tekelec opens up new M2M SMS options that have the power to expedite services and lower the costs of doing business across the most complex markets,” he further explained.

“SMS is the most affordable and dependable wireless communication method for both personal and machine-to-machine communications,” Vince Lesch (News - Alert), Tekelec’s CTO observed. “Numerex’s innovative network, and its ability to leverage service providers’ mobile networks, provides a global M2M platform that can scale for the world’s largest organizations,” maintained Lesch.

Armed with Tekelec’s Mobile Messaging Application Gateway (News - Alert), Numerex will be able to offer an expanded portfolio of wireless networks to their customers, with intelligent traffic distribution. It will make a fantastic combination and the users will gain more flexibility over their remote assets for controlling inventory. In addition to that, it will also be possible to simultaneously allocate Numerex network resources to ensure message delivery. The Application Gateway provides SMS-based M2M communications by supporting SIGTRAN -- signaling system 7 over Internet protocol -- and the industry standard Short Message Peer-to-Peer protocol.
