Sierra Wireless and Red Bend Software Achieve Interoperability for OMA-DM


Interoperability between the Sierra Wireless (News - Alert) AirVantage Services Platform and Red Bend’s client software, vRapid Mobile for Firmware Updating and vDirect Mobile for Device Management has been announced.

Network operators and M2M solution providers will now be able to extend the reach of their services; managing devices equipped with Red Bend’s client software through the Open Mobile Alliance, or “OMA,” device management, or “DM,” compliant AirVantage Services Platform with the help of this interoperability and overcome barriers to M2M service delivery.

Sierra Wireless and Red Bend have come together to connect Red Bend’s OMA-DM embedded client software products,  with the open, scalable and secure Sierra Wireless AirVantage Services Platform. The AirVantage Services Platform is interoperable with major embedded protocols, providing a full suite of M2M services and management features to network operators and their partners to achieve end-to-end control over a broad range of devices that are Red-Bend enabled.

Network operators and M2M solution providers can rapidly develop, deploy, support and manage cost effective M2M solutions and services with the help Sierra Wireless AirVantage Services Platform. Multiple operating systems compatible M2M Developer Suite enables M2M solution providers to incorporate a broad range of communication devices.

vRapid Mobile and vDirect Mobile, the leading OMA-DM compliant clients for performing firmware over-the-air updates and remote configuration and device management (DM) of mobile phones and M2M wireless devices are used by more than 60 companies. AirVantage platform users can now manage devices equipped with Red Bend’s client software to remotely provide new subscribers, configure applications and network settings, and upgrade software over-the-air, which was a challenge previously.

According to Emmanuel Walckenaer, senior vice president and general manager, Sierra Wireless, by incorporating major device management protocols available on the M2M market, the company has expanded its customers’ M2M services reach. He talks about the company’s commitment to provide the most advanced, open and pervasive device management services to the operators and M2M solution providers.

Lori Sylvia, executive vice president, Marketing, Red Band Software adds that the collaboration with Sierra Wireless will ensure that operators and M2M solution providers will have interoperable, end-to-end management systems to cost-effectively perform remote software updates and rapidly deliver new features to M2M devices in the field.
