TeleCommunication Systems (News - Alert), Inc., a provider of high availability and secure mobile communication technologym has announced that Frost & Sullivan (News - Alert) a business research and analysis company has selected its portfolio of location-based services for a “Product Line Strategy Award.” The Frost & Sullivan award is presented each year to the company that has demonstrated the most insight into customer needs and product demands.
Leveraging products with appropriate price, performance, and feature points, TCS has given a performance that was found to be worth the award after in-depth interviews and primary market analysis conducted by Frost & Sullivan’s industry analyst team.
Some of the wireless applications being provided by TCS include Gokivo Navigator, a real-time turn-by-turn personal GPS navigation application with integrated speech recognition and traffic; People Locator, an application that gives consumers the ability to securely share their location with family and friends; Asset Locator, an on-demand mobile resource management solution for small and medium-size businesses and Telematics, an application for embeddable navigation and real-time content for mobile and in-dash automotive products.
TCS has been providing wireless E9-1-1 services since 1997 and commercial LBS services since 2002. The company acquired the LBS assets of LocationLogic and two location-based applications and additional depth to its Xypoint LBS infrastructure platform for wireless carriers in May 2009.
Furthermore, it acquired Networks In Motion (News - Alert) in December last year, bringing a Tier 1 market-leading navigation business into its portfolio.
According to Brent Iadarola, global research director for Mobile Communications at Frost and Sullivan, TCS is a true end-to-end solution provider in the LBS space, offering an impressive and comprehensive location product and service portfolio.
Iadarola said that today’s LBS value chain includes five major elements, which are LBS applications, mapping and data servers, middleware, location servers and location assistance services. In this environment, “TCS is unique in that it provides a complete end-to-end LBS solution that includes a comprehensive applications portfolio, mapping and data servers, a robust middleware platform, location servers such as GMLC, SLMC, SUPL Server, MPC and LBS Assistance Data Services.”
In the words of Drew Morin (News - Alert), Chief Technology Officer at TCS, “over the past several years, remarkable advances in LBS have raised consumer and enterprise awareness and fueled increased demand, and the company offers a complete LBS solution by partnering with wireless operators worldwide.”

Earlier this month, TeleCommunication Systems Inc. announced plans to offer support for the recent introduction of the Next Generation 9-1-1 Preservation Act of 2010.
