Digi Launches Intros Digi TransPort WR44, Enterprise Class Cellular Router With Qualcomm Gobi Technology

Digi International (News - Alert), a provider of wireless Machine-to-Machine or 'M2M' products and solutions that connect and securely manage local or remote electronic devices over the network or via the Web, has announced to introduce the Digi TransPort WR44 with Gobi, an enterprise class cellular router with Qualcomm (News - Alert) Gobi technology. The Gobi technology is helpful in offering support to High Speed Packet Access or 'HSPA' or Evolution-Data Optimized or 'EV-DO' networks from the same cellular radio.

The new Digi TransPort WR44 with Gobi will enable enterprises in connecting to virtually any cellular network in the world, and also develop a single solution for use in multiple regions to reduce cost and improve efficiency. The solution also helps customers in supporting a different standard in the future than initially selected, minimizing their risk factors.

The device is an all-in-one enterprise class cellular router with an integrated Wi-Fi access point, and offers high-speed connectivity to remote devices by integrating a 3G cellular router, state-of-the-art security, advanced routing, an Ethernet switch, global positioning system or 'GPS', telemetry and Wi-Fi access point in one device. The solution offers a seamless integration of enterprise class features and flexible wireless functionality to enable the enterprises in connecting remote devices in vertical applications such as transportation, remote office and retail point-of-sale. The device has been made available by the company, which has been certified by AT&T (News - Alert) with Verizon and Sprint certifications expected in Q2 2010.

According to Larry Kraft, Senior Vice President Of Global Sales & Marketing, Digi International, the Digi TransPort WR44 with Gobi provides anywhere global connectivity for the enterprise and greater flexibility for device deployment, which makes it easier and more efficient for organizations to connect to their remote assets throughout the world.

In the words of Beau Beck, Senior Director of Wireless Connectivity at Qualcomm CDMA Technologies, company's Gobi technology is unique in that it provides reliable, transparent 3G connectivity to both EV-DO and HSPA networks. Beck noted that this allows customers to access global networks and critical information from nearly anywhere in the world.

February 2010, Digi International introduced the ConnectPort X wireless M-Bus gateway family which can connect electricity, gas and water meters to an energy service provider via broadband. ConnectPort X was used for metering applications in Europe, and had been found to be cost-effective and seamlessly integrates with the iDigi Energy wireless M2M solutions bundle which features the hosted software and services.
