Video: Cinterion CEO Shares Exciting Insight on M2M Opportunities

Would Henry Ford turn over in his grave at the technologies being implemented into cars today or would he revel in the advancements the industry has taken? While Ford was an inventor, definitely, he was also a businessman who could recognize opportunity in the market and capitalize on it to drive success.

If he had the opportunity to learn about Cinterion, he would likely embrace the opportunity to partner with such a company to grow market share by embedding new technologies into high end vehicles that are built to sustain any ride.

The opportunity for such a meeting will never come, but today's automakers have access to mobile Internet platforms that can be implemented into high end vehicles, making the car more than just a nice ride. To provide insight on such a platform, Norbert Muhrer,       CEO of Cinterion visited the TMC (News - Alert) media booth at CTIA 2010 for an interview captured on video.

A spin-off from Siemens (News - Alert), Cinterion is considered the world leader in the M2M market. In fact, according to Muhrer, the company is bigger than the number two and three combined. The key to Cinterion's success? Providing good, quality products that meet a specific market need, such as the latest mobile Internet platform. This is a growing movement in the automotive segment and response to Criterion's solutions has been very positive.

When asked the advantages in Cinterion offerings, Muhrer highlighted that Cinterion makes solid, quality products, especially compared with those in the mobile phone industry, which have a very short life cycle. Cinterion products are put into environments where there will be considerable strain, extreme temperatures, vibrations, etc.

Cinterion products also must be able to perform for the life of the vehicle. Quality is essential as Cinterion products will be embedded deep in the car and a simple re-boot is not an option. All products produced by Cinterion go through 7,000 test cases before it reaches the market, further demonstrating the company's commitment to quality.

So, why move this direction rather than just stick with the opportunity in smartphones? "The mobile phone industry is somewhat limited by the number of people on the planet, which account for 6 billion currently," said Muhrer. "There are certain party estimates that there are 50 billion machines on the planet…Every house and every person is becoming connected, so there are significant opportunities."
