Recently, at CTIA 2010, TMC's (News - Alert) Carl Ford had a chance to interview Stefan Lindvall, president of Connected Development, a relatively new company founded last year.
Ford noted that Connected Development helped, "from the cradle to the grave" with building M2M products. "We founded our company to be a viable force in the industry," Lindvall said, to help new providers entering the market with advice, design and testing services, as well as certification services.
"We believe that we can help customers truly manage their projects," he said, "from a timing and cost standpoint."
Ford noted that the market is "very active" with M2M products now, with lots of people looking for help, so "you have this interesting opportunity now to support development of different verticals," asking Lindvall if there were any particular verticals the company was focusing on.
"Our offering is horizontal," Lindvall said, in the sense that any customer can use it, adding that they do see more interest from certain verticals, such as health care, the insurance industry and other applications, such as the car and fleet management industry.
Noting that the wireless market is, "certainly in a state of transition," Ford said to Lindvall, "the ability to bring your wireless expertise from Ericsson (News - Alert) to help these people get a general sense of how to enable their strategies and products is valuable."
For the testing side of the business, Lindvall said "it's very key, given our experience and expertise in this area. When you do design your product you need to think up front about the different requirements, and there are a number of choices you can make."
For example, he said, "Should I go with GSM? Or should I work with another technology? For all these things there are a number of decisions you need to make."
