SK Telecom Introduces Mobile Telematics Service for Electric Vehicles


SK Telecom, a company that has made numerous historical breakthroughs in the Korean telecommunications industry, has announced its first-ever Mobile In Vehicle telematics service for electric cars.

 

The new features of this service are likely to endorse smarter and greener electric energy uses management by making use of the real-time information on electricity rates, current battery status and charging station provided via wireless connectivity.

Not only has SK Telecom (News - Alert) announced the new MIV service for electric cars, it has also presented the MIV service for regular cars.

 

The first telematics services for automobiles, the Mobile In Vehicle "MIV" allows remote diagnosis and vehicle control by the use of mobile phones with Telematics API for Java ME (JSR298), a Java-based mobile technology which has been selected as the global benchmark in 2008.

 

Only a limited array of services was available through traditional telematics services that combine network technologies with the automobile before. These services included location information, data communication and route guidance.

 

Now, the MIV service from SK Telecom, is capable of taking the service to a new level by offering a service integrating mobile telecommunications technology, content and platform.

 

The company will present the first-ever Mobile In Vehicle (MIV) telematics service for electric cars at Auto China 2010 held in Beijing, China.

 

'SK Telecom plans to highlight our innovation and technology leadership in converged services through Mobile In Vehicle. We believe the service will ultimately change the driving experience, providing drivers with a new level of value with an 'always on-connectivity' with their cars,' said Hoojong Kim, senior vice president and head of service R&D center at SK Telecom.

 

'The Auto China 2010 will also be a great opportunity for us to seek further collaboration opportunities with global partners in the automobile industry. We hope to forge partnerships that can help further develop this innovative service for drivers all around the world.'
