According to Jessie Yamzon, head of IT network planning and management Group, ABS (News - Alert)-CBN, the need for a ubiquitous wireless Internet solution grew from the need to enable the news and public affairs and its corporate department to send VoIP, video and data anywhere, anytime without compromising quality and availability.

Officials with Ruckus Wireless (News - Alert) said that to meet ABS-CBN's requirements, the company's unparalleled Wi-Fi technology performance was selected to support VoIP, video and data applications indoors.

Outdoor units have also been deployed to provide reliable broadband access through the use of adaptive wireless meshing.

"ABS-CBN is well respected because of our dynamic business and ability to adapt quickly to the changing tastes of our audiences," said Jessie Yamzon.

He said that this adaptability is enabled by the technology the company uses to enable departments to constantly move and change with the dynamic nature of the company's business.

"This helps us deliver the best programs and services to our Filipino patrons", Yamzon said.

"We needed a Wi-Fi solution that could match this pace - one that would deliver a faster, cost-effective, more reliable infrastructure without the need to relay expensive cabling to every access point," he said.

Yamzon said that Ruckus Wireless delivered on this requirement with patented dynamic beamforming and smart antenna array technologies that surpassed the company's most ambitious expectations for Wi-Fi.

ABS-CBN's Wi-Fi network can now support high definition IP-based video applications in high traffic areas through the use of the Ruckus system.

According to company officials, Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi is purpose-built for multimedia-distribution, leveraging state-of-the-art dynamic beamforming technology to facilitate carrier-grade services such as IPTV (News - Alert), and music and radio streaming.

Company officials said that with it, ABS-CBN is able to simplify the control of Wi-Fi services and associated security parameters remotely, while providing a seamless user experience.

"In the Philippines, Wi-Fi is an invaluable tool essential for easing the cost and complexity associated with building huge infrastructures to support the explosion of data traffic being generated by mobile users," said Selina Lo (News - Alert), president and CEO of Ruckus Wireless.

Lo said that given the tsunami of data traffic being generated on wireless networks, coupled with a new generation of handheld devices that integrate Wi-Fi, companies of all shapes and sizes are desperately seeking better, smarter implementations of 802.11 to solve capacity and coverage problems.

"Wi-Fi is imperative to drive the mobile Internet phenomenon. Filipinos today have two or more mobile phones and other mobile gadgets - most of which are now Wi-Fi enabled. Mobile Internet users now have the freedom to stay online, run apps or browse multimedia content on the web with these devices at a much lower cost, using smarter Wi-Fi," said Lo.

Lo said that Ruckus Wireless is committed to working with the customers and channel partners to make Wi-Fi ubiquitous in the Philippines and beyond.
