MiX Telematics, a provider of vehicle tracking and fleet management products and services to consumers and companies of all sizes, has announced that Scania Australia, a manufacturer of truck, bus, coach and engines, has selected its FM Communicator product, which enables the fleet managers to carry out the capture and analysis of vehicle and driver-related performance data, offering them a wide range of operational and efficiency benefits. Leveraging the FM Communicator and its web-based service, known as FM-Web, Scania Australia has integrated the MiX Telematics solutions into its vehicle sales' process, and has targeted the combination of telematics, repair and maintenance contracts at all of its vehicles, so that the fleet operators can achieve maximum vehicle uptime levels.
According to the contract, specialist Scania equipment will be used along with only genuine Scania parts so that vehicles are maintained and serviced to the highest standards. With the Scania exclusive maintenance cover, fleet managers save dramatically on maintenance costs as the integration of Scania's driver training program and the ability to monitor driver performance in real-time offers enhanced savings to the operators.
Further, the MiX Telematics technology provides convenient monitoring of the driver and vehicle information, as its on-board computer known as the 'FM Communicator' offers vehicle tracking, data recording and GPRS communications as standard. In addition to the FM Communicator, the web-based information service, FM-Web helps the fleet managers in accessing vital data from anywhere in the world through an internet connection.
In the words of Mike Baker, international key account manager for the Scania Group at MiX Telematics, it has been a pleasure to recently visit the team at Scania Australia and witness firsthand the requirements for the Australian market as it is a diverse and exciting market, with many geographic challenges, which require a varied and flexible approach to telematics solutions. Baker continued that together with Scania Australia, MiX Telematics has developed a system that supports all aspects of FMS provision, helping the company's customers to save considerably on maintenance and operating costs and also to deliver a safer environment for drivers and passengers alike.
Recently this month, MiX Telematics introduced the latest edition of its MiX Mobile for Google's Android (News - Alert), adding to the wave of applications becoming available for this open source platform.
