Sierra Wireless had successfully acquired Wavecom (News - Alert) in March 2009. Sierra Wireless M2M communication devices like AirPrime Intelligent Embedded Modules and AirLink Intelligent Routers and Gateways have achieved significant revenue growth in 2009 after the acquisition. The revenue growth has continued to gain momentum in 2010.

M2M product revenues represented the highest revenue by any cellular M2M communication product supplier in the world. The revenue reached $221 million for 2009. This has amounted to 42 percent of total Sierra Wireless sales. M2M product revenue increased further to $88.7 million, in the first quarter of 2010. This is nearly the triple of the M2M product revenue in the first quarter of 2009. More than half of Sierra Wireless' total sales are now accounted by M2M product revenue.

According to Tobias Ryberg, a senior analyst at Berg Insight, with M2M continuing to expand from traditional industrial applications to more consumer-facing devices, a strong market growth for cellular M2M devices is predicted over the next few years. With a strong presence in all major regions of the world and a diverse customer base across all vertical market segments, Sierra Wireless is well positioned in this environment.

In a release, Jason Cohenour, President and CEO of Sierra Wireless said, 'I am extremely pleased with the growth we have achieved since our acquisition of Wavecom last year. The integration has been very successful, and the synergies created from our respective product portfolios and market positions are now producing tangible results."

A considerable advantage in the cellular M2M market is gained with the company's strong cash position and the fact that the company is debt-free, added Cohenour. In this market, the financial stability of suppliers is important to customers with long development cycles and significant investments.

Cohenour concluded Sierra is in an excellent position to continue expansion in this growing market with the company's unmatched product portfolio, technology assets, global presence, great team and financial strength.
