In this regard, Telogis Inc. announced Driver Safety Alerts for its Telogis Fleet platform. This will facilitate fleet managers and safety directors with instant alerts and trend data of speeding or other aggressive driving behavior.

According to a press release, Driver Safety Alerts primarily encompasses of data from the onboard GPS hardware to track aggressive driving, such as hard acceleration, sudden braking and excessive speeding.

Company officials said that the new offering makes use of speed limit data provided by NAVTEQ (News - Alert) contained within Telogis Fleet platform, in order to provide alerts of drivers exceeding posted limits.

The Telogis' (News - Alert) Driver Safety Alerts is completely configurable based on thresholds defined by each organization. Apart from being customizable to individual organizations' needs, it also allows data to be viewed in a variety of ways.

According to Telogis, the Driver Safety Alerts is included with the Pro and Enterprise editions of the Telogis Fleet platform, which makes the safety alerting simple to use and easy to configure. The platform provides a real-time alerting engine as well as an extensive list of configurable reports.

In addition, the Driver Safety Alert data can be incorporated into driver score cards and viewed in Telogis Fleet's dashboard for more detailed analysis and reporting.

Koch added, "The knowledge that their behavior is being monitored ensures that drivers are more likely to adhere to posted speed limits and avoid aggressive maneuvers. Also, safe, defensive driving can also save companies money in a number of very tangible ways, from lower fuel consumption to less wear on tires and brakes."

In the recent news, Telogis launched its GeoBase Silverlight Application Programming Interface "API," a mapping API built on Microsoft (News - Alert) Silverlight technology. The new API facilitates developers to create rich mapping and routing applications for the Web using Microsoft Silverlight and the existing GeoStream web server that ships with the Telogis GeoBase map engine.
