Funambol Unveils Funambol Cloud API or CAPI

Funambol (News - Alert), the open source mobile cloud sync company announced the availability of Funambol Cloud API or CAPI.
Story continues below ↓
CAPI helps developers create mobile cloud apps that can leverage contacts, calendars and pictures across various devices and systems. It also allows data and media to be mashed up to create innovative applications like machine-to-machine or M2M communication. The applications can include using contact data in a car or internet appliance, calendars with navigation systems, or pictures for a TV slideshow.
According to company sources Funambol is hosting a gallery of open source CAPI apps built by its global developer community for facilitating collaboration of new mobile cloud services.
Fabrizio Capobianco (News - Alert), Funambol CEO said, "The mobile cloud makes it super easy for people to access their data and media, anytime, anywhere. The Funambol Cloud API allows developers to quickly create new types of apps and services that mashup mobile and online data across a broad variety of devices."
Also the Funambol mobile cloud server syncs data and media on several thousand mobile phones and connected devices with social networks, email systems and PCs.  Developers can use Funambol CAPI to access synced data, such as contacts, calendars and pictures, using simple API calls from high-level languages, such as Java, AJAX and PHP.
App development is speeded up and also the apps can mashup mobile and online data and media from diverse devices and systems, for different types of projects, said company sources.
Some apps and services that have been built using CAPI are automatic sync for calendars from Google (News - Alert), Outlook or mobile phones to a wireless navigation device. This enables people to access their calendars on a GPS device that can guide people to reach some place without having to enter addresses manually.
Pictures can be synched from mobile phones to any Internet-connected device like e-picture frame, e-book reader, TV or home Internet appliance like Chumby. Contacts can be synched from Outlook, Gmail, Yahoo! Mail or mobile phones with people's Facebook (News - Alert) profile pictures. It eliminates the need for manual entry or dialing of phone numbers. Contacts and calendars can be provided from virtually any source like iGoogle widgets.
CAPI has been designed to automatically access and share data like contacts, calendars and photos from one system or device with another via the cloud. Also Funambol invites developers to use CAPI in creating apps.
