SmartTrust (News - Alert), a developer of SIM and Mobile Device Management (MDM) software for mobile operators and Red Bend Software specializing in Mobile Software Management or MSM announced the completion of interoperability testing between their products.
According to official sources this interoperability is expected to enable operators of wireless networks to enhance the consumer experience by offering new features and applications over the air to handsets and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) modules used on current and future wireless networks.
The interoperability testing serves to demonstrate how deployment and maintenance of emerging wireless services must be coordinated to enable operators to successfully cater to the requirements of their networks and the consumers who use them.
SmartTrust and Red Bend completed Open Mobile (News - Alert) Alliance Device Management or OMA DM interoperability testing besides several other interoperability tests between a client and server for demonstrating the ability to support operations including a FOTA server-initiated update for firmware for a wireless device or module and a FOTA client-initiated update for firmware
Marianne Arosenius, managing director, SmartTrust said in a release, “The need for active customer service has become increasingly important as subscribers see today’s devices, particularly smartphones, as an extension of their lives.”
“Subscribers of wireless service have great expectations. Ensuring that their mobile devices will reliably keep them connected to the services and applications they crave will lead to increased consumer loyalty to the service provider throughout the entire subscriber lifecycle,” Arosenius added.
It is cost prohibitive to manually conduct regular software updates on machines and modules especially when it is projected that 50 billion new connected devices are expected to operate automatically.
“The ability to utilize our SmartProvisioning platform to remotely manage these devices over the air with the assurance that they will work with a leading device management client is crucial to the success of the M2M market. SmartTrust is focused on delivering real solutions that support our customers’ many business needs while helping to decrease costs,” Arosenius explained.
The interoperability between the two companies involved two Red Bend products namely vRapid Mobile, solution for updating firmware over the air and managing software and applications on mobile devices, and the company’s vDirect Mobile, an OMA-DM compliant and interoperable device management client for mobile phones and wireless devices in the mobile, WiMAX (News - Alert) and machine-to-machine markets. SmartTrust sources added that its solution tested for interoperability was SmartProvisioning, a platform for mobile device and M2M management.
