Over the last few years, a growing number of commercial organizations have begun utilizing Apple mobile devices, such as the iPhone (News - Alert), iPad and iPod Touch. Consequently, IT administrators are facing many challenges in meeting the needs of end users and offering enterprise grade Mobile Device Management “MDM” capabilities.
In this regard, JAMF Software, a provider of client management software for Macintosh users, unveiled the augmented enterprise MDM capabilities for Apple (News - Alert) mobile devices in its Casper Suite version 8.0, which is to be released in the Fall of 2010.
JAMF Software’s Casper Suite is a collection of client management applications for the Apple platform. It is a solution for lifecycle management on the Apple platform.
Featuring a full range of mobile device management capabilities available for the iPhone and iPod Touch since their initial introduction in iPhone OS 3, the Casper Suite delivers an extensible MDM solution building on deep knowledge of Apple technologies and an open architecture that eases barriers to adoption, says JAMF.
According to JAMF Software, its Casper Suite manages over 500,000 Mac devices for over 700 commercial, education and government customers across the globe.
With the introduction of additional MDM capabilities in iOS 4, JAMF Software has now expanded Casper Suite to take advantage of the full range of management capabilities for Apple mobile devices, said officials.
Version 8.0 of the Casper Suite will have advanced iOS 4 capabilities such as the ability to remotely manage configuration profiles, enroll and configure devices, and gather detailed inventory information, all from a single console in the JAMF Software Server.
Apart from tightly integrating with directory services and core Apple technologies such as GSX (News - Alert), the Casper Suite also eliminates the need for redundant authentication systems and eases the transition to mobile device management on a large scale.
In addition, Casper Suite will take advantage of new security capabilities in iOS 4 to perform remote device locking, secure data wipes and passcode administration, ensuring data integrity in the event of a lost device.
JAMF Software is offering the customers with early adopter pricing, which is available immediately. The education version is priced at $5.00 per device and the commercial version is priced at $10.00 per device.
