Focused on developing and delivering advanced, end-to-end vehicle solutions, IMS has announced that it would join the ng Connect Program, a multi-industry initiative driving the development of next generation broadband services based on Long Term Evolution, LTE (News - Alert) in short, and other high bandwidth technologies.

Multi-industry organizations dedicated to creating network-ready applications, services, content and devices for emerging LTE networks will be able to avail of the expertise in the areas of in-vehicle mobile media, telematics, on-demand content and driver safety, provided by IMS.

The ng Connect Program has become very popular in the industry and over 37 leading companies have become members, more than doubling initial membership in its first year.

By bringing its suite of industry-leading connected car technologies to the consortium's LTE Connected Car solution concept, IMS will provide leadership, guidance and solutions to the program.

IMS' solutions include: iLane, the ultimate in-vehicle platform that provides drivers with hands-free access to on-demand content and time-sensitive information; Prompt, a voice-activated dispatch solution that enables taxi and limousine drivers to conduct their job entirely hands-free via simple voice commands such as sign-in, receive job information, accept/decline jobs and provide ETA info; and DriveSync, the ultimate turn-key telematics platform which enables a variety of solutions including usage-based insurance offerings, fleet monitoring, vehicle tracking, and government programs.

The ng Connect Program's LTE Connected Car is an entirely new mobile platform concept, for vehicles and consumers will now have information, entertainment, diagnostics, navigation, and access to networks and cloud -based applications at their fingertips.

Component suppliers and content providers have a common platform from which they can operate, making it easier for them to develop innovative services that enrich the in-vehicle experience for the consumers.

'As a global leader of connected in-car technologies and products, we are uniquely positioned to provide leadership, guidance and solutions for the ng Connect LTE Connected Car,' Tony Cassetta, COO, IMS, said, and added that the exciting developments emerging from the program would act as a catalyst in spurring them on to deliver industry-leading solutions that contribute to the welfare of the driver.

Derek Kuhn, Vice President of Emerging Technology & Media at Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert), a founding member of the ng Connect Program concurred with Cassetta and said that the ng Connect Program's LTE Connected Car was generating tremendous interest and excitement in the industry.

Welcoming the entry of IMS to the ng Connect Program, Kuhn appreciated the depth of knowledge of automotive safety, telematics and mobile media which IMS brought with it and was sure that it would contribute greatly in expanding the capabilities that were already incorporated in the program's Connected car.
