Recently, TMC CEO Rich Tehrani (News - Alert) sat down with Greg Roberts, vice president of marketing at  iControl to find out more about the company and how their solutions are providing the next generation of broadband home management services.

According to Roberts, there is a dramatic shift happening in the home security market right now. “Telephone lines are goingICONTROL away,” Roberts said. While these were once the main communications points from a home security system to a central monitoring station – now, Roberts said, “broadband has become the central method for communications to a central monitoring station.”

With the company’s technology, the home security system is able to communicate through broadband, or through cellular, to a central monitoring station.

Also, Roberts said, “Now that we have that type of connectivity, we can add a host of other services on top of that platform like remote home monitoring – the ability to  monitor your home via video cameras.

This means users can see whose walking in the front door and even get video clips and pictures taken when events occur.

“Now you know when your kids got home from school on-time because the front door opened – the video shot a picture or video clip, and sent it to you via e-mail or text message,” Roberts explained.

In addition, iControl’s platform can be used to control things in the home such as lights, thermostats and door locks.
