SmartSynch, Inc., a provider of smart grid technology solutions that utilize standard Internet Protocol or ‘IP’ communications via public wireless networks, has announced that the company will provide a complete smart metering system to Griffin Power, which provides electricity to the Griffin, Ga. area.
According to a release, Griffin Power will start deploying IP-enabled residential and commercial SmartSynch SmartMeters utilizing existing public wireless networks in the coming days. It will make the City of Griffin the first municipal utility to have a territory-wide, comprehensive smart metering system that will use public wireless networks as the communications backbone.
Officials of the city were looking for an enhanced smart metering system capable of meeting today’s needs, while avoiding the future risk of technology obsolescence. At the same time, they didn’t want to spend a lot of money for owning and operating a private communication network to support smart grid applications.
The SmartSynch solution is based upon a secure and reliable public wireless networks, which makes it automatically IP-enabled for each endpoint device directly, so that the users find it the most future-proof solutions on the market today. Through the company’s smart metering system, the City of Griffin will be able to automate processes for all electric meters. The solution is equipped with enhanced features such as remote disconnect/reconnect, ability to deliver optional rate designs, such as time of use, demand management rates and pre-paid service to the users, and providing or interfacing with an automated outage management system so that outage periods can be minimized.
After the deployment of the SmartSynch solution, the customers of Griffin Power will be able to monitor and regulate electricity usage via the Internet and home devices. Additionally, it will also reduce meter reading, work order costs and overall carbon footprint resulting from decreased truck rolls for Griffin Power, apart from making it possible for the organization to respond to customer service requests and power outages in a safe and timely manner.
According to William “Bill” Bosch, Director, Griffin Power, SmartSynch’s end-to-end IP communicating solutions allow the organization to easily and efficiently implement secure smart grid technology that will benefit the city and its customers. Bosch continued that by using public wireless networks already in place, SmartSynch’s solutions will enable Griffin Power to provide greater energy efficiency to its residential and commercial customers while helping keep rates low.
In December, SmartSynch,
unveiled its new SmartSynch GridRouter, a universal smart grid communications solution. According to the company officials, the new GridRouter helps utilities to seamlessly and easily communicate with every possible device on the smart grid regardless of make, model or communication protocol.
